Road Chicken

Oooh, she's a cute one y'all! I saw her the other day and didn't have my camera. I learned my lesson on that one. Now, guess who i saw today? None other that Little Miss Road Chicken! Isn't she beautiful!?!?

I took the bus into town and walking back home from the bus stop i saw her.. same place as last time. So, i eased over and got in my bags. I had made a stop at the Modern Mart on Church Street for a few things and one of those things was bread.

It's a common known fact that all birds adore bread and if they were able to they would bake daily. I pulled out a heel and crumbled it up, tossing it to Momma and her lil' chicks. Oh Happy Day :-) those little chicks were ON IT! When one got a crumb two would chase him! Last time i thought i counted 10 chicks but i didn't linger so we are gonna say i miscounted. There were 9 cuties today. 2 are a brighter yellow with black spots, 2 are a dustier yellow with black spots, and the other 5 are black with small yellow flecks.

When it was time to leave there was a bit of bread on the road so i picked it up and tossed it to the side. Momma and the chicks scooted away but they were close enough that i could, right now, be the proud parent of an adorable chicky! I'm not though. But don't think i've not thought about figuring out how to get chickens to live in my yard!!

Chickens wander and roam all over the island. There are even areas in the city where you can see (or hear) them! They are so much fun to watch --- always so busy. They just melt my heart!! Like you didn't already guess that.
*peace*

Little Miss Road Chicken is beautiful!! I guess you will be feeding the chicken population of Bermuda now :-) The little chickies are sooooo cute! I don't think I've ever heard of yellow chickens with black spots, or visa versa.

You know, I've always wanted to live somewhere that I would accommodate a smallish hen house. Besides the added bonus of fresh eggs, they will, free of charge, remove any and all unwanted bugs from your garden!! And bless their little hearts, I think they actually seek out those nasty-legged-fat-green tomato caterpillars. You know my un-natural fear of those darn things.

    Love,
    Mom

I thought they were all one colour but if you look at the adults they have markings on them. I guess they need something to show off.
I *love* the added bonus of fresh eggs and bug killin'!! I think our desire for chickens (and for me, a goat) is the "Nitty Gritty Cookbook" in us!!

You are so right! It is the 'Nitty Gritty Cookbook' that has made us this way. I love that little cookbook.
